Don't stop to tie your shoe, Little One

"Don't stop to tie your shoe, Little One"

We wish to escape
Explore the majestic blue
so far out of reach.
Under the green bars
we're trapped.

We live in fear
We are meaningless to the world.
A neusance, if that.
Vulnerable
to everything.

The rubber-bottomed killers
with their enormous round skylights
and immature laughter
make the heat magnify
to an unbearable temperature.
We frantically scurry
but the torture follows.
Not everyone is fast enough.
We can't all make it
to safety.

The group scatters
from the invisible flame.
A few sacrifices don't matter.
Just a majority of the colony
needs to survive.

I fall behind
I hear the uncontrollable giggles
of our enemies
I feel the heat overcome-

Scortched.
