The Monster Inside

"The Monster Inside"

The Monster was there from the beginning.

A boy sat in a chair too large
For his 3 year old body.
He played ever so contently
with a matchbox car.

The Monster was eating from the inside out.

As the sickness took over and
made itself known, he fought.
We held his hand, on the defensive side.

The Monster began its challenge.

The boy teetered in the unknown
in a game of life and death.
The boy made his feeble move.
He was deceivingly on the offensive side.

The Monster had a better strategy.

The boy lies now, in his mothers arms.
She holds her breath with silent tears.
His six year old body worn and tired.
His matchbox car falls to the floor.

The Monster snickers,
                     Game Over.
